Charley Harper’s What’s in the Coral Reef? explores the abundance and variety of coral reef sea life. Zoe Burke’s rhyming text introduces young readers to 50 different reef dwellers—the Foureye Butterflyfish, Manta Ray, Staghorn Coral, Flamingo Tongue Snail, and more. All are depicted with colorful images taken from Harper’s painting The Coral Reef, which illustrates various creatures inhabiting Caribbean reef preserves. The entire painting is reproduced on a fold-out page at the end of the book, with a key identifying all the featured marine life.
