At the center of this fiery hourglass is an extremely hot and dense ball of gas on the brink of becoming a star. The two cones of gas that form the hourglass shape are illuminated by the light from this protostar. At the center of the hourglass is a small black disc of matter being pulled into the protostar, fueling its transformation.
