A bright pond of stardust scatters outwards, created from the death throws of a now dead star. These stars do not explode in a supernova nor do they collapse into a black hole, instead the star’s core runs out of usable fuel and its outer layers expand outwards and away creating a large expanding gas cloud that astronomers call a planetary nebula.
